Humor is essential to life. One has to laugh at things when they get too bad and in Ecuador things more often than not do not turn out as expected. So there is plenty of opportunity for a good laugh.
Now, believe it or not this humor section contains a message which I would like to sum up this way: whatever happens to you (except death maybe?), there is always a different way to look at it, a better way, a way that will teach you something.
Humor often brings salvation in the most miserable moments.
That is when photos must be taken.
There is a small village near Alamor in the Loja Province of Ecuador called Mercadillo. Not much happens there. However it appears that it is a place where time really matters.
There are 4 clocks on the church. They all indicate exactly the same time, not because as I originally thought they are well greased and synchronized but because it is only one mechanism inside with 4 displays outside. So they can never get out of sync.
A great feature to give Mercadillo a touch of "internationality" and promote tourism would be to make some minor alterations inside in order to display 4 different time zones, e.g. MERCADILLO - MADRID - MOSCOW - NEW YORK :-)
Wouldn't that be great? I believe that it could easily be done.
In case this suggestion ever makes its way to the authorities in Alamor, please do not forget to give credit to todoloja (and send a bit of money too !)
MERCADILLO ROCKS ! No matter where you are, you will always know the time in Mercadillo !
Women with larger behinds are healthier and more intelligent, study finds
(NaturalNews) It turns out that having a little "junk in the trunk" is a good thing, health wise. Not only does having a larger derriere boost overall health, but it's tied to increased intelligence and lower risk of chronic disease, according to researchers at the University of Oxford and Churchill Hospital in the United Kingdom
Looks like a joke but it is not !

This is kind of "circular humour" isn't it?
Photo taken in Loja. In the rain this fellow was holding on with one foot on a ladder that was "secured" by his co-worker
and the other on some carefully chosen wire that I assume he knew was not live. Something to meditate on next time we have a power cut :-)
It did not escape me the irony of this happening right by the church.
Photo of a front door in calle Lourdes Loja Ecuador. Now THAT's security !!
Near Zamora I was invited once to try a frog. It is delicious according to the locals. So, we went to the frog farm, a big place with thousands of frogs that they export to France for the "froggies".
One has to carry his own to the restaurant which prepares them and is located a few hundred meters from the farm. So there I go, walking with my almuerzo in hand.
I must say that it was actually quite a good meal.
Don't you love Ecuador?
